“Gjëmon” is a short animated documentary project by Mauro Zaçe that reinterprets the traditional Albanian ritual of Gjama e Burrave through an expressionist animation style, combining historical research, narration, music, and contemporary audiovisual techniques. By presenting this collective mourning ritual in a visually engaging and emotionally resonant format, the project aims to preserve and promote Albania’s intangible cultural heritage while making it meaningful for younger generations and larger audiences.
